Hey Everyone!
Love,
Multivitamins and Healthy Supplements in my personal opinion are quite underrated in today's world especially here in India. I remember the time I was diagnosed as Anaemic which was way back in college and ever since Iron supplements have been part of my daily routine. Very recently I came across Caroline Hiron's blog BeautyMouth which absolutely changed my perspective about skin care and supplement. If you are not familiar with her I highly suggest you to check out her blog and I am sure you'll find it an eye opener!
Lets be honest in today's world with all the hectic schedules our food habits are not as they should be and even the quality of food with all the pesticides in it...is not at par with what our body needs! Now this definitely does not mean we should stop eating healthy food and live on supplements only! NO!
Look at supplements as to be taken in addition to the healthy food we are eating and to maintain healthy body and lifestyle. So let me share my supplement routine which I have been following for about 3 months now and if it was worth it!
I have been battling acne since college and I remember whenever I visit any dermatologist one of the questions asked is if I am a vegetarian. Now what does being a vegetarian have to do with acne you's ask? Well there are certain essential nutrients which are extremely essential for healthy skin and hair which are often missing in a vegetarian diet. Omega 3 fatty acid is one such essential supplement which is often found in fish and plant oil. It is essential for proper functioning of brain, heart, skin, hair, cholesterol etc. Therefore I have incorporated fish oil 500mg capsules in my everyday routine and I definitely see improvement..now you will ask in what way? I still do get pimples but I feel they do heal faster, my hairfall is less and hair feels healthy overall, also during those days of the month I no longer have backaches and stomach aches. Even though being vegetarian I really dont mind having fish oil supplements for my daily Omega 3 needs but if you are picky you can take Flaxseed oil. Another supplement I am planning to add in my routine is Vit D. Couple of years back my Vit D level went very low and during that time I had to take 6 injections to get the desired level. We all know Vit D is extremely essential for Calcium absorption in the body which inturn helps in stronger bones, teeth etc. The best way to get Vitamin D is to go out there and get some Sun! But since most of us all always indoor working in an AC environment resulting in deficiency in Vit D. Read about Vit D in detail here and see for yourself!
Another of a recent discovery is Vit B12, I suffer of extreme acidity and it happens again and again even though I am very careful with intake of spicy and oily food. Since the acidity was happening again and again my doctor got me tested on Vit B12 deficiency and BAM! The way he explained was B12 is required in producing enzymes which tackle acid formulation within the body and since the body was not able to fight back the acid formulation due to B12 I was getting acidity constantly! Little more research on this and I was again led to following articles here and here
Another thing I have learned is to customize your supplement regime, for eg I often see people popping Multivitamins assuming they will get all the body nutrients in one pill which according to me is not correct. You may need some of vitamins in higher quantity than others so its always better to take those which are required instead of popping multivitamins. Again my personal opinion!
Do you take any vitamins or supplements daily? Please do share your experiences with it and how you feel about them?
Please note I am not a doctor so I won't recommend to you to take any of the supplements before consulting your physician. Its always best to get them prescribed from an expert!
Hope this post was helpful, until next time take care and stay beautiful!
